Now that we 'curate' even lunch, what happens to the role of the connoisseur in contemporary culture? 'Curate' is now a buzzword applied to everything from music festivals to artisanal cheese. Inside the art world, the curator reigns supreme, acting as the face of high-profile group shows and biennials in a way that can eclipse and assimilate the contributions of individual artists. At the same time, curatorial studies programs continue to grow in popularity, and businesses are increasingly adopting curation as a means of adding value to content and courting demographics. Everyone, it seems, is a now a curator. But what is a curator, exactly? And what does the explosive popularity of curating say about our culture's relationship with taste, labour and the avant-garde? In this incisive and original study, critic David Balzer travels through art history and around the globe to explore the cult of curation - where it began, how it came to dominate museums and galleries, and how it was co-opted at the turn of the millennium as the dominant mode of organizing and giving value to content. At the centre of the book is a paradox: curation is institutionalized and expertise-driven like never before, yet the first independent curators were not formally trained, and any act of choosing has become 'curating.' Is the professional curator an oxymoron? Has curation reached a sort of endgame, where its widespread fetishization has led to its own demise?

Processuality and performativity, and more recently dramaturgy and choreography, are terms often used in analyses of exhibitions and other curatorial formats. These attributions reflect the changes curatorial practice has undergone over the past twenty years in the wider context of cultural and economic globalization and the related notions of acceleration, action orientation, and mobility. In this light, the exhibition manifests itself as a transdisciplinary and transcultural set of spatiotemporal relations, which is time-based by its very nature. Focusing on time instead of the typically predominant category of space, this publication the second volume in the Cultures of the Curatorial series takes up the key aesthetic, social, political, and economic issues of the early twenty-first century running through the field and framed by the axes of exhibiting and the temporal.

This study presents the basic models for discrete and continuous particle laden flow simulation. An overview of the two main approaches, the Lagrangian discrete particle model and the Eulerian granular phase model is given. Moreover these two approaches are combined to a hybrid model to use the benefits of the discrete and continuous description. This safes computational time and increase the efficiency of particle laden flow simulations. Furthermore the models are extended to poly-disperse particles including a simple agglomeration model based on a population balance equation. Finally the usa

A multivocal critique that emphasizes the crucial role of artists in questioning and shaping the phenomenon of the exhibition. This anthology provides a multivocal critique of the exhibition of contemporary art, bringing together the writings of artists, curators, and theorists. Collectively these diverse perspectives are united by the notion that although the focus for modernist discussion was individual works of art, it is the exhibition that is the prime cultural carrier of contemporaneity. The texts encompass exhibition design and form; exhibitions that are object-based, live, or discursive; projects that no longer rely on a physical space to be visited in person; artists' responses to being curated and their reflections on the potential of acting curatorially. Set against the rise of the curator as an influential force in the contemporary art world, this volume underlines the crucial role of artists in questioning and shaping the phenomenon of the exhibition.
