The Clavis degli autori camaldolesi (secoli XI-XVI¹) contains the biographical and bibliographical records of the authors of works in Latin and the vernacular belonging to the Camaldolese Congregation and active in the period from the founding of the Hermitage of Camaldoli to the 16th century. Sixty-one authors in all are registered with the literary production of fifty-two identified. In addition, the appendix contains a further nine authors whose works have not yet been identified or authors whose membership in the Congregation is still under review. The status quaestionis on the authors and their works was determined by the evaluation of a considerable amount of published material (encyclopaedias, literary histories, manuscripts catalogues, ancient and modern editions, monographs, journal and miscellanea articles, etc.) and, at times, by recourse to unpublished documentary and literary sources.
