Abstract

This book is designed to provide a basic understanding of why and how various sorts of chemical are used to keep disease problems at bay in domesticated animals, especially the common farm species. Cows, sheep, pigs and poultry account for the vast majority of the use of veterinary drugs and pesticides, and the principles behind this use are outlined. The relation and differences between health control for animals and for humans is examined and the economic importance of keeping a farm as free as possible of major disease is emphasized.
