High Performance Computing is an integrated computing environment for solving large-scale computational demanding problems in science, engineering and business. Newly emerging areas of HPC applications include medical sciences, transportation, financial operations and advanced human-computer interface such as virtual reality. High performance computing includes computer hardware, software, algorithms, programming tools and environments, plus visualization. The book addresses several of these key components of high performance technology and contains descriptions of the state-of-the-art compu

In the last decade, parallel computing technologies have transformed high-performance computing. Two trends have emerged: massively parallel computing leading to exascale on the one hand and moderately parallel applications, which have opened up high-performance computing for the masses, on the other. The availability of commodity hardware components, a wide spectrum of parallel applications in research and industry and user-friendly management and development tools have enabled access to parallel and high-performance computing for a wide spectrum of end users from research and academia to mid

As the fields of organometallic and coordination chemistry of the transition metals has grown more mature, the under-explored chemistry of the rare-earths and actinides has drawn the attention of research groups from across the globe looking for new fundamental discoveries and access to compounds with unique properties. The rare-earths--the group 3 metals and the 4f lanthanide series--have long shown many interesting properties in the solid state which exploit their unique electronic configurations. However, it is the molecular chemistry of these metals that has expanded dramatically in recent years as researchers identify the differences between--and unique features of--their molecular compounds. Recent highlights include the identification of new oxidation states and patterns of reactivity as well as applications in medical imaging and health care which represent new and exciting areas of research. The actinides show a wide range of different properties as a consequence of their radioactivity and radiochemistry, but this has not stopped recent rapid progress into the exploration of their unique chemistry. Uranium, in particular, shows huge potential with its transition metal-like range of oxidation states (+2 to +6), and in specialised laboratories, the heavier actinides are also beginning to show their unique chemistry. This Special Issue aims to bring together these strands of research in an openly-accessible way to allow better communication of these advances to a wider audience. This is necessary as, despite these exciting advances, the rare-earths and actinides are still much neglected topics in both school and undergraduate curriculums. Contributions in the above-mentioned areas will allow new research in the rare-earths and actinides to inform and influence the next generation of scientists and keep the field as vibrant as it is today.

This book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on Advances in Parallel Computing Technologies and Applications (ICAPTA 2022), held virtually in Bangalore, India. It compiles research on recent developments in parallel computing, focusing on systems, networking, cloud solutions, and management technologies. The conference aimed to provide a platform for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to share innovations and address challenges in the field. Topics include machine learning, software services, and the theoretical and practical aspects of parallel computing. The volume is part of the Advances in Parallel Computing series and is intended for professionals and academics involved in high performance and large scale parallel systems.

Authors Jim Jeffers and James Reinders spent two years helping educate customers about the prototype and pre-production hardware before Intel introduced the first Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor. They have distilled their own experiences coupled with insights from many expert customers, Intel Field Engineers, Application Engineers and Technical Consulting Engineers, to create this authoritative first book on the essentials of programming for this new architecture and these new products. This book is useful even before you ever touch a system with an Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor. To ensure t

Single processing units have now reached a point where further major improvements in their performance are restricted by their physical limitations. This is causing a slowing down in advances at the same time as new scientific challenges are demanding exascale speed. This has meant that parallel processing has become key to High Performance Computing (HPC).This book contains the proceedings of the 14th biennial ParCo conference, ParCo2011, held in Ghent, Belgium. The ParCo conferences have traditionally concentrated on three main themes: Algorithms, Architectures and Applications. Nowadays tho
