This book provides students, activists, community organizers and the general public with a concise and clear guide on how to approach, analyze and address conflict in order to transform relationships and work towards peace with justice. In doing so, it details a systematic process to analyze conflict, and offers an understandable framework in which to situate and choose strategies of building cultures of peace. It acknowledges the academic divide between the disciplines of peace studies and conflict resolution studies, yet is relevant to students of both fields. The volume draws on relevant theory and research from sociology, psychology, critical studies and anthropology, and starts from the assumption that conflict analysis and transformation must include a critical analysis of hegemony and power.

"Inspired by Marcelo Dascal's theory of controversies, this volume includes studies in the theory of controversies, studies of the history of controversy forms and their evolution, case-studies of particular historical and current controversies. The purpose of this volume is to identify a taxonomy of controversies and also to sense a line of development for the phenomenon itself of controversies. At the same time, we want to ask ourselves about the impact and the spread of controversies in the contemporary world, eminently intended as a heuristic element facilitating knowledge. For all these reasons, the fundamental aim of the volume is to provide the reader with a selection of current theoretical and practical perspectives on controversies, and to offer a broad picture of the complex range of definitions, meanings and practices connected to it"--

What is left of socialism ? This question, too, must be answered in a "project left." Certainly, socialism is no longer an accomplished or well-known model of society to tend tothrough daily political action. It can only be conceived as an uninterrupted search for the liberation of the person and his capacity for self-realization. It should be possible introducing elements of socialism into concrete society such as: equal opportunities, community welfare, control over the organization of work, the diffusion of knowledge as an instrument of freedom. This would overcome, from time to time, the contradictions and failures of capitalism and the market economy, making the person, and not only the classes, the keystone of civil coexistence.

In this volume, the law of parental responsibility in Europe is examined on a comparative basis for Belgium, Germany, England and Wales, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. This closes a gap in the research, as there is currently no such current study available. A presentation of the main features of the law of parental responsibility is followed by a comparative typification and analysis of the rules regarding the exercise of joint parental responsibility and the legal representation of the child in cases of parental separation; those rules are explored from the point of view of the tension between parental autonomy and enforced parental cooperation. The legal solutions to parental conflicts are a further focal point; this is dealt with in depth regarding parental conflicts over the child's place of residence and legal rules about alternating residence of the child in Australia, Belgium and Sweden. Volume 21 of the series "Göttinger Juristische Schriften" (Göttingen Legal Writings) The series is published by the Faculty of Law of the Georg-August-University and makes faculty activities accessible to an interested public.
