Goals for the design of electrical systems that include both linear and nonlinear loads are established in this recommended practice. The voltage and current waveforms that may exist throughout the system are described, and waveform distortion goals for the system designer are established. The interface between sources and loads is described as the point of common coupling and observance of the design goals will reduce interference between electrical equipment. This recommended practice addresses steady-state limitations. Transient conditions exceeding these limitations may be encountered. This document sets the quality of power that is to be provided at the point of common coupling. This document does not cover the effects of radio-frequency interference; however, guidance is offered for wired telephone systems.

Provided in this recommended practice are calculation methods for conservatively evaluating the feasibility for an existing installed dry-type or liquid immersed transformer, to supply nonsinusoidal load currents as a portion of the total load. Also provided is necessary application information to assist in properly specifying a new transformer expected to carry a load, a portion of which is composed of nonsinusoidal load currents. A number of examples illustrating these methods and calculations are presented. Reference annexes provide a comparison of the document calculations to calculations found in other industry standards. Suggested temperature rise calculation methods are detailed for reference purposes.

Harmonic studies and analysis of industrial and commercial power systems are described. The basic concepts involved in such studies are described first. This is followed by a discussion of how to determine the need for a harmonic study, how to assemble the required data, how to recognize potential problems, and how to implement corrective measures.

Guidance for controlling or modifying the inductive environment and the susceptibility of affected wire line telecommunications facilities in order to operate within the acceptable levels of steady-state or surge induced voltages of the environmental interface (probe wire) defined by IEEE Std 776(TM) is provided in this Recommended Practice. Procedures for determining the source of the problem are given. Mitigation theory and philosophy are discussed, and mitigation devices are described. The application of typical mitigation apparatus are addressed. Advice for determining the best engineering solution is offered, and general safety considerations are discussed.

This volume contains the proceedings of the conferences held in the second half of the Special Year in Harmonic Analysis and Operator Algebras at the Centre for Mathematical Analysis in 1987. There were in fact two conferences, the first held in August and the second somewhat smaller gathering in December.

First published in 1968, An Introduction to Harmonic Analysis has firmly established itself as a classic text and a favorite for students and experts alike. Professor Katznelson starts the book with an exposition of classical Fourier series. The aim is to demonstrate the central ideas of harmonic analysis in a concrete setting, and to provide a stock of examples to foster a clear understanding of the theory. Once these ideas are established, the author goes on to show that the scope of harmonic analysis extends far beyond the setting of the circle group, and he opens the door to other contexts by considering Fourier transforms on the real line as well as a brief look at Fourier analysis on locally compact abelian groups. This new edition has been revised by the author, to include several new sections and a new appendix.

The authors consider the Hodge Laplacian Delta on the Heisenberg group H_n, endowed with a left-invariant and U(n)-invariant Riemannian metric. For 0le kle 2n+1, let Delta_k denote the Hodge Laplacian restricted to k-forms. In this paper they address three main, related questions: (1) whether the L^2 and L^p-Hodge decompositions, 1 , hold on H_n; (2) whether the Riesz transforms dDelta_k^{-frac 12} are L^p-bounded, for 1.

In a previous study, the authors built the Bellman function for integral functionals on the mathrm{BMO} space. The present paper provides a development of the subject. They abandon the majority of unwanted restrictions on the function that generates the functional. It is the new evolutional approach that allows the authors to treat the problem in its natural setting. What is more, these new considerations lighten dynamical aspects of the Bellman function, in particular, the evolution of its picture.
