"This volume is the outgrowth of an attempt by the author to give, to advanced college and graduate students, a course which would equip them so that they would be able to make critical studies of educational tests and to form intelligent judgments with reference to their usefulness. Although the volume is the direct outgrowth of the author's attempts to instruct college students, he hopes that it will afford a means of giving to superintendents and others who direct the use of educational tests in our public schools a point of view, as well as acquainting them with certain fundamental principles which seem necessary in order to secure the maximum returns from the investments that are being made in this field. The number of available educational tests has multiplied until it is necessary for one who is formulating a testing program to make a selection of the tests to be used. This selection should be made intelligently. After the tests are selected they should be used to increase the efficiency of the school. It is the author's hope that this volume will prove helpful in assisting those working with educational tests to accomplish these ends"--

"The present almost universal employment of standard tests, in the public schools, has made it essential that there should be available for teachers a brief and simple statement of those few elements of statistical method which it is necessary for a teacher to know, if the best use is to be made of the results of the testing. The books on statistics at present available are, for the most part, too elaborate and technical for the needs of the busy teacher. They present many special methods which are rarely if ever used by her, and they usually omit explanation of certain elementary procedures about which some discussion is necessary for those who are attempting to acquaint themselves with statistical methods without the aid of an instructor. It is for such teachers in service that these lessons are especially intended; they enable a teacher to instruct herself in the few essential statistical procedures which every teacher should know. The lessons have also been found very valuable, however, in first courses dealing with mental and educational tests. Methods of tabulating, using norms, and graphing can be really learned only by using them; the chapter on statistical methods in the usual book on tests is of necessity inadequate. These practice exercises will actually establish these skills. It is believed, in short, that for both the teacher who is instructing herself and for the student in a beginning course on tests these lessons will prove of decided helpfulness"--Book. Das Lehrbuch zur Geländemodellierung Familiarity with ground modeling is an indispensable prerequisite for landscape architects; they have to use contour lines in their designs, quickly develop alternatives, and check alternative options regarding design, ecology, economy, and technical feasibility. The third edition contains essential updated information on BIM construction in landscape architecture, 3D machine control, and BIM in practice. Furthermore, the book provides in-depth information on forms of terrain, scales, interpolation, geodetic points, contour lines, how to calculate the volume of land mass, and includes subjects such as slope stabilization systems and ground modeling on the building site. Included is also the ground modeling of roads and parking lots, and a revised section on stormwater management. Numerous practical examples are included in the task section to help apply the theory.
