The volumes of this classic series, now referred to simply as "Zechmeister" after its founder, Laszlo Zechmeister, have appeared under the Springer Imprint ever since the series' inauguration in 1938. The series has featured contributions by seven Nobel laureates: D.H.R. Barton, D. Crowfoot Hodgkin, L. Pauling, K. Alder, O. Diels, P. Karrer, H. von Euler-Chelpin. The volumes contain contributions on various topics related to the origin, distribution, chemistry, synthesis, biochemistry, function or use of various classes of naturally occurring substances ranging from small molecules to biopolymers. Each contribution is written by a recognized authority in the field and provides a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the topic in question. Addressed to biologists, technologists, and chemists alike, the series can be used by the expert as a source of information and literature citations and by the non-expert as a means of orientation in a rapidly developing discipline.

"Macromolecules" provides a broad survey of the entire subject; integrated representations of chemistry, physics, and technology; precise descriptions and definitions of basic phenomena; and balanced treatments of facts and theory. The book series thus intends to bridge the gap between introductory textbooks and the highly specialized texts and monographs that cover only part of polymer science and technology. Volume I is concerned with the fundamentals of chemical structure and principles of synthesis of macromolecules: constitution, configuration, conformation, polymerization equilibria, polymerization mechanisms (ionic, coordination, free-radical, step reactions, including solid-state and biochemical polymerizations), polymer reactions, and strategies for defined polymer architectures. Volume II discusses individual polymers and their industrial syntheses, Volume III the fundamentals of physical structures and properties, and Volume IV the processing and application of polymers as plastics, fibers, elastomers, thickeners, etc.

Global society in the 21st century is facing challenges of improving the quality of air, water, soil and environment and maintaining the ecological balance. Environmental pollution, thus, has become a major global concern. The modern growth of industrialization, urbanization, modern agricultural development and energy generation has resulted in discriminate exploitation of natural resources for fulfilling the human desires and need, which have contributed in disturbing the ecological balance on which the quality of our environment depends. Human beings in true sense are the product of their environment. Man-environment relationship indicates that pollution and deterioration of environment has a social origin. The modern technological advancements in chemical processes/operations have generated new products resulting into new pollutants to the abundant level which are above the self cleaning capacity of the environment. One of the major issues in recent times is the threat to the human lives, due to the progressive deterioration of the environment from various sources. The impact of the pollutants on the environment will be significant when the accumulated pollutants load has exceeded the carrying capacity of the receiving environment. Sustainable development envisages the use of natural resources such as forests, land, water and fisheries in a sustainable manner without causing changes in our natural world. Rio de Janeiro-Earth Summit held in Brazil 1992, focuses on sustainable development to encourage respect and concern for use of natural resources in a sustainable manner for protection of environment. This book will be beneficial as a source of educational material to post-graduate, research scholars, teachers and industrial personnel for maintaining the balance in use of natural resources for sustainable development. Book comprises: Green Technology for Sustainable Growth, Sustainable development, Marine Microbial Diversity, Bioprospecting Medicinal plants, Soil Seed Bank Dynamics, Nanotechnology for Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Remediating by Nanoparticles, Biopolymers in Industries, Air Pollution Scenario, Green Federalism, Economic Sustainability, Global warming & Agricultural for Sustainable Development, Green Buildings and Mathematical model in Sustainable development.

This book discusses the current direction of the research approach to extreme biomimetics through biological materials-inspired chemistry and its applications in modern technology and medicine. It is a resource covering topics of extreme (psychrophilic and thermopilic) biomineralization, solvothermal and hydrothermal chemistry of metal oxides and nanostructured composites, and bioinspired materials science in a diverse areas. The authors review the current advances in the extreme biomimetics research field and describe various approaches introduced and explored by their respective laboratories. • Details the basic principles of extreme biomimetics approach for design of new materials and applications; • Includes numerous examples of the hierarchical organization of hydrothermally or psychrophilically obtained biocomposites, structural bioscaffolds, biosculpturing, biomimetism, and bioinspiration as tools for the design of innovative materials; • Describes and details the principles of extreme biomimetics with respect to metallization of chemically and thermally stable biopolymers.

From blood to milk, pumice to gelatine, most scientists interact with colloids on a daily basis without any real knowledge of their nature. Building on the success of the first edition, *Colloids and Interfaces with Surfactants and Polymers Second Edition* is a user-friendly, non-technical introduction to colloids and interfaces. Includes: - Many practical examples of colloid and interface science - An enhanced section on fluorescence microscopy, a widely used technique in biological systems for the optical imaging of cellular structures - A new section on phenomenology (the principle of time/temperature superposition), which enables the experimentalist to extend the frequency range of their rheological instruments - New information on sedimentation and strategies for the control of sedimentation, which is critical in many dispersions of commercial importance - Fresh treatments of traditional theoretical topics like the electrical double-layer, colloidal interactions, wetting behavior and light scattering, as well as more recent advances in polymer science, statistical mechanics and the use of neutrons - In-depth discussions of widely used techniques with mathematics used in a straight-forward way so quantitative descriptions of colloid and interface properties can be derived *Colloids and Interfaces with Surfactants and Polymers Second Edition* explains all the fundamental concepts of colloids and interfaces as well as detailing some of the more advanced aspects which might be useful in specific applications. Intended for undergraduate and graduate courses in colloids and soft materials, the book is also relevant to those in the chemical, coatings, cosmetics, ceramics, food, pharmaceutical and oil industries.
