In the history of Western culture, theology, and science, a strict dichotomy exists between religion and magic: religion as the intellectually and morally superior one – magic as the primitive, superstitious, demonic other. The present work aims to break with this tradition, and traces the origin of this dichotomy as well as its many purposes. Whose powers does it serve? Which interests and ideological stakes does it conceal? Moreover, the author proposes a new epistemological framework for the study of magisms as well as their “rehumanisation”, and argues for a rehabilitation of their studies.

Gynaecological surgery has made tremendous strides in the last 30 years, due to advances in medical imaging, operative laparoscopy, and new types of prosthesis. Reconstructive plastic surgery of pelvic organ prolapse and of urinary incontinence have benefited from these developments. The laparoscopic sacropopexy and laparoscopic lateral suspension with meshes are two excellent examples. In order to successfully perform these operations, detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the pelvic floor as “seen from above”, i.e., from the abdominal view, is an invaluable asset. Achieving perfect knowledge of the anatomical details is now possible, thanks to laparoscopy. With the aid of laparoscopy, following subperitoneal dissections, reconstructive surgery of the pelvic floor can be made substantially more precise, more exact, and also more anatomical. This atlas will allow gynaecologic surgeons to deepen and improve their anatomical expertise, with the aid of laparoscopy. It also describes in detail the most common laparoscopic operative techniques. The book represents a new and unique approach to anatomy studied in the living, and supplements the main content with a wealth of straightforward and clearly explained photographs.

Depuis une vingtaine d’années, et spécialement aux USA, une meilleure connaissance et une meilleure compréhension de la personnalité, de la vie et de l’œuvre de Mircea Eliade (1907-1986) ont suscité de très vives discussions qui ont à leur tour occasionné de nouvelles enquêtes et controverses. L’auteur du présent ouvrage a participé de très près à ces débats en établissant dès 1993 que l’œuvre de celui que l’on a considéré parfois comme le plus « grand historien des religions du xxe siècle », se nourrissait en fait de thèmes qui empruntaient eux-mêmes beaucoup au fascisme et à l’antisémitisme roumains des années trente, à l’ésotérisme contemporain (Guénon, Evola, Coomaraswamy) ainsi qu’au gnosticisme antique. Le présent ouvrage reprend, dans une version revue et sensiblement augmentée, l’ensemble de ces enquêtes pour lesquelles une introduction et une conclusion inédites ont été composées.

Eva-Marie Dubuisson provides a fascinating anthropological inquiry into the deeply ingrained presence of ancestors within the cultural, political, and spiritual discourse of Kazakhs. In a climate of authoritarianism and economic uncertainty, many people in this region turn to their forebearers for care, guidance, and advice, invoking them on a daily basis. This "living language" creates a powerful link to the past and a stable foundation for the present. Through Dubuisson's participatory, observational, and lived experience among Kazakhs, we witness firsthand the public performances and private rituals that show how memory and identity are sustained through an oral tradition of invoking ancestors. This ancestral dialogue sustains a unifying worldview by mediating questions of faith and morality, providing role models, and offering a mechanism for socio-political critique, change, and meaning-making. Looking beyond studies of Islam or heritage alone, Dubuisson provides fresh insights into understanding the Kazakh worldview that will serve students, researchers, GMOs, and policymakers in the region.

L'étude du travail des designers prend place dans une interrogation générale, qui vise le travail de construction nécessaire pour que la situation de marché apparaisse. Les designers, obligés de réaliser physiquement l'objet et d'anticiper sur un marché futur, sont particulièrement intéressants pour qui veut comprendre les mécanismes complexes de l'incorporation de la demande dans les produits. Le design est pris dans des définitions divergentes. Mais les designers partagent une définition commune de leur travail : celle d'une articulation entre l'usager et l'objet. C'est à ce titre qu'ils ont été étudiés, comme sociologues pratiques de l'usage. Trois équipes de designers industriels, choisies pour la complémentarité de leur conception du design et de leur cadre de travail, ont été suivies sur le terrain. L'étude de leurs pratiques, de leurs modes d'organisation et des techniques de représentation utilisées a dégagé les modalités possibles d'une anticipation de l'usage. Par opposition au marketing, les designers sont soumis à une contrainte pressante : leur tâche de " réalisation " de l'objet souligne tout ce que l'objet comporte d'indéterminé par rapport à un cahier des charges idéal portant les desiderata de la demande. Cette indétermination impose la nécessaire condensation de ses dimensions, esthétiques, techniques, fonctionnelles, marchandes. C'est ce moment indécis où l'objet prend forme, qui refait surgir des esquisses la pluralité des solutions possibles, et l'indétermination structurelle de l'offre par rapport à la demande.
