2018 wordt een bijzonder jaar voor AMUZ. In de zomer blaast Laus Polyphoniae, het festival gewijd aan de muziek van de middeleeuwen en de renaissance, 25 kaarsjes uit. In het najaar van 2018 richt AMUZ zijn pijlen op de barokmuziek in het kader van Antwerpen Barok 2018. Rubens inspireert. AMUZ krijgt bovendien een nieuw kleedje. Vierhonderd jaar na de inhuldiging van de Sint-Augustinuskerk maakt Jan Fabre een0kunstinstallatie die een verrassend accent toevoegt aan het historische patrimonium.0In een levendige stadsbuurt in het centrum van Antwerpen ligt AMUZ: een unieke concertzaal ondergebracht in de voormalige St.-Augustinuskerk. Het gebouw combineert een indrukwekkend 17de-eeuwse barokke kader met een prachtige0hedendaagse architectuur. De huidige concertzaal van AMUZ was ooit de kloosterkerk van de paters augustijnen. Ze werd tussen 1615 en 1618 opgetrokken onder leiding van Wenzel Coebergher, hofarchitect van de aartshertogen Albrecht en Isabella. Ontdek in dit boek het hart van AMUZ, dat verleden en heden op harmonieuze wijze verenigt. Cette étude d'histoire de l'art est l'une des premières à envisager le décor de théâtre non seulement comme support d'une action dramatique mais aussi comme une image artistique dans un espace. Elle s'appuie pour cela sur un corpus peu connu : les esquisses de décors du Mémoire de Laurent Mahelot, réalisées pour le théâtre de l'Hôtel de Bourgogne, qui regroupent notamment 47 dessins réattribués à l'artiste scénographe Georges Buffequin, peintre du Roi au service de Richelieu. Ces lavis offrent un témoignage précieux de l'esthétique baroque française des années 1630-1640 et de l'influence particulière du théâtre italien. Ces images de " feintes " (pour reprendre le terme employé au XVIIe siècle), sont rapprochées et mises en parallèle avec la première grande controverse de cette période : celle de la Querelle du Cid autour de la règle des trois unités qui opposa les partisans de l'écriture " régulière " aux " irréguliers ". Cette controverse, irriguée par les réflexions des humanistes italiens du XVIe siècle, compose le débat théorique fondamental qui anime la pensée artistique française pendant les années du règne de Richelieu, puis une bonne partie du XVIIe siècle. La publication dans cet ouvrage du Discours à Cliton sur les Observations du Cid, servira de base à l'étude de l'esthétique de la variété, qui apparaît aux yeux de la critique d'aujourd'hui comme étant constitutive du baroque, et à laquelle, vers 1630, vont s'opposer avec une certaine force, les partisans de la poétique composée dans les règles aristotéliciennes de l'art, ceux que l'on qualifiera de " classiques ".
