Abstract

The most recent advances in human identification are thoroughly discussed in this important new text. The twenty-five contributions to this volume demonstrate movement beyond the boundaries of forensic anthropology of only a decade ago. In Chapter 2 the role of the forensic anthropologist at scenes containing human victims, including multiple fatality incidents, fires, and serial murder investigations, is discussed. In Chapter 3, the role of the forensic anthropologist is examined in a unique type of recovery situation: death investigative work involving human rights violations. Chapter 4 disc

Abstract

This book relates the mechanical and structural properties of bone to its function in man and other vertebrates. John Currey, one of the pioneers of modern bone research, reviews existing information in the field and particularly emphasizes the correlation of the structure of bone with its various uses.Originally published in 1984.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Abstract

"Research Methods in Human Skeletal Biology serves as the one location readers can go to not only learn how to conduct research in general, but how research is specifically conducted within human skeletal biology. It outlines the current types of research being conducted within each sub-specialty of skeletal biology, and gives the reader the tools to set up a research project in skeletal biology. It also suggests several ideas for potential projects. Each chapter has an inclusive bibliography, which can serve as a good jumpstart for project references. Key Features: Provides a step-by-step guide to conducting research in human skeletal biology. Covers diverse topics (sexing, aging, stature and ancestry estimation) and new technologies (histology, medical imaging, and geometric morphometrics). Excellent accompaniment to existing forensic anthropology or osteology works."--Provided by publisher.
