Bij de firma Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics in Kontich produceert men afdichtingsringen uit kunststof voor een brede waaier aan toepassingen. Met behulp van CNC draaimachines wordt de beoogde vorm uit holle kunststofcilinders gedraaid. Deze worden in de meeste gevallen ook zelf geproduceerd uit hun eigen assortiment van zelf ontwikkelde kunststofpoeders. Bij de grotere diameters zijn deze cilinders, ten gevolge van inwendige spanningen in het materiaal, vaak niet perfect cirkelvormig. Hierdoor zou er slag kunnen optreden op de draaibanken. Om dit te verhinderen, wordt de ring met een meetklok en een aantal schroeven op een tafel in de juiste cirkelvorm geduwd. Vervolgens wordt hij op een houten plaat gelijmd, die daarna ook dienst doet als meeneemplaat op de draaibank. In dit werk wordt een ontwerp tot automatisering van deze centreertafel volledig uitgewerkt van concept tot afgewerkte machine. Hierbij spelen zowel de technische realisatie als kostprijs en eenvoud een belangrijke rol. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics in Kontich is a firm that produces plastic seals for all kinds of applications. With the use of CNC machines they turn the desired product out of hollow plastic cylinders that they produce themselves from their own range of high-tech plastic powders. Because of internal tensions due to heat treatment, the larger cylinders are not perfectly round and can therefore cause problems in the seal production. To prevent this, the cylinders are first pushed into the right shape on special tables and then glued to wooden plates to hold that shape.A design for the automation of these special tables, that are now controlled manually, is developed entirely from concept to finished machine in this work. The technical aspect, as well as cost and simplicity play an important part in the development.
