Abstract

Process measurement deals with the quantification of business process models using process model metrics. This book presents a theoretical framework for the prediction of external process model attributes (as, for example, error-proneness and understandabiltiy) based on internal (structural) attributes. The properties of proposed metrics are analyzed. A visualization technique for metric values is introduced and metrics for process model understandability and granularity are evaluated.

Abstract

Long description: Events are an essential element of society. Advancing digital technologies and the ongoing globalization has put forward a variety of different business, leisure, or scientific events that need to be managed in order to take place. As a result of the proliferation of digital technology, IT systems are an indispensable part of this management process. Amid this pandemic crisis, these systems have become increasingly important due to the relocation of events into the virtual sphere. Since every event entails different requirements, event management systems need to be very flexible. In contrast to other application systems, this flexibility is needed during use as the requirements of future events are not known during the initial selection and roll-out of the software. This calls for an intensified dialogue between the business and IT to match technical possibilities with practical requirements. Currently, adequate means to support this dialogue are lacking. To this end, this dissertation presents a reference model that encompasses the essential processes and data structures in the domain. In 36 application cases, the reference model is instantiated and evaluated. Practitioners and researchers are the intended audiences of this work. Researchers may use it as a foundation to design novel IT artifacts in the domain. Practitioners benefit from the first comprehensive tool to support the design and use of digital technology in event management.

Abstract

This book provides valuable insights and guidance for firms looking to improve their operations in the face of disruption and uncertainty. It contributes to the body of knowledge in logistics and supply chain disciplines which will be useful to both industry practitioners and academics. With this, the book first emphasizes the road to outsourcing 4.0 by providing updated information and perspectives on these trends, given that outsourcing has evolved significantly over the years and new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning are changing the way outsourcing is done. In addition, the book also explores new models such as third-party logistics (3PL) providers and crowdsourcing which have changed the landscape of outsourcing. Lastly, the book includes updated best practices for outsourcing, including how to choose outsourcing partners, manage outsourcing relationships, and minimize risks in the post-COVID-19 recovery period. Each chapter in the book goes through concepts, development histories, benefits, risks and challenges, and includes recent case studies. Abstract

This book is a revised version of the PhD dissertation written by the author at Sapienza – Università di Roma in Italy. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is an automation technology in the field of BPM that creates software robots to automate rule-based and repetitive tasks performed by human users in their applications’ user interfaces (UIs). The research underlying this thesis is targeted to: (i) automatically understand which user actions contribute to which routines inside a UI log and (ii) automatically generate executable RPA scripts directly from the UI logs. To this end, a cross-platform software tool called smartRPA was developed, which is able to generate executable RPA scripts, and then validated on four non-functional requirements to measure the quality of the underlying approach. In 2023, the PhD dissertation won the “BPM Dissertation Award”, granted to outstanding PhD theses in the field of Business Process Management.

Abstract

Peter Piccard, Stéphane Yansenne, Master in Management option MBA.“Creation of a value proposition for SMEs based on Strategy, Process and Change Management: Customer profile and product definition.”The purpose of this study is to check the validity of our basic hypothesis: “is it possible to create a value proposition based on three different fields of knowledge: strategy, business process management and change management that can create value for SMEs”. This is done by taken into consideration two blocks of the Business Model Canvas, the Customer Profile and the Value Proposition and looking for the FIT between them. The Customer profile was drafted in accordance to the results of several interviews conducted by two different methods, the journalist approach and the qualitative research approach. The Value Proposition was designed, using techniques of all 3 concerning fields of knowledge, during a “Go Live” experiment in an existing company that served as our testing environment. The FIT was investigated by taken into consideration the correlation between the Customer Profile and the Value Proposition. On the basis of the results of our experiment, it can be concluded that the level of FIT between the Customer Profile and the Value Proposition is high enough for our basic hypothesis to be considered as confirmed.
