The climate relevance of air traffic should not be underestimated. The already advanced legal containment of CO2 emissions caused by aviation is the focus of this study. The central actors - the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an international organization and the EU as a supranational organization, as well as the UNFCCC regime as a framework - create a plural regulatory environment. The work discloses this regulatory environment and examines its interactions as well as possibilities for development. Special attention is paid to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme (CORSIA) of the ICAO and the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). Dem Luftverkehr kommt eine nicht zu unterschätzende Klimarelevanz zu. Die bereits fortgeschrittene rechtliche Einhegung durch den Luftverkehr verursachter CO2-Emissionen steht dabei im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung. Die zentralen Akteure – die Internationale Zivilluftfahrtorganisation ICAO als Internationale Organisation und die EU als supranationale Organisation sowie daneben das UNFCCC-Regime als Rahmenordnung – schaffen eine plurale Regelungsumgebung. Das Werk legt diese Regelungsumgebung offen und untersucht ihre Wechselwirkungen sowie Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten. Dabei liegt ein besonderes, auch vergleichendes Augenmerk auf dem Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme (CORSIA) der ICAO und dem Europäischen Emissionshandelssystem (EU-EHS).

"This book explores the role of feminist activists in The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and highlights the progress they have made in mainstreaming gender as a key issue in global climate governance. It is now commonplace for gender to be framed as a political issue in global climate politics within academic scholarship, but there is typically a lack of robust empirical analysis of existing advocacy approaches. Filling this lacuna, Joanna Flavell interrogates the political strategies of the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) in the UNFCCC (The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). Through a conceptual framework that integrates climate change with intersectional critical inquiry and political practice, Flavell analyses hundreds of historical documents, coupled with interviews and observations from two UNFCCC conferences. This research uncovers a so-far untold story about the history of the UNFCCC that foregrounds gender and feminist advocacy, highlighting the importance of the WGC in shaping dominant narratives of global climate governance through a series of rhetorical and procedural strategies. Overall, the book draws important conclusions around power in global climate governance and opens up new avenues for advancing a feminist green politics. Climate change governance is in a state of enormous flux. New and more dynamic forms of governing are appearing around the international climate regime centred on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They appear to be emerging spontaneously from the bottom up, producing a more dispersed pattern of governing, which Nobel Laureate Elinor Ostrom famously described as 'polycentric'. This book is intended to highlight why SCP policy design and evaluation needs to overcome conventional environmental policy framework. Emerging SCP policy design and evaluation do not involve focusing on individual products or behaviors or improving efficiency in management systems in relation to environmental sustainability; instead, they address more socio-economic systems and target collective efforts for transition. Effort has been made for this book/Special Issue to feature studies contributing to policy design and evaluation in this direction. It contains 11 papers covering challenges and opportunities for SCP policy design, application of foresight to policy design, evaluation of NDC potentials to facilitate sustainable lifestyles, comparative analysis of sustainable development criteria, sustainable lifestyle and education, subjective wellbeing and sustainable consumption, case studies on challenges and opportunities for sustainability transition at the local and community level, and three case studies on how to fill gaps between policy goals and environmental behavior at a city level in China, Vietnam, and Thailand. The papers in this book suggest that SCP policy design and evaluation need to pay more attention to social aspects of sustainability such as social infrastructure and well-being and socio-technical systems to ensure effective and just transition to sustainability.
