A consequence of the recent financial crisis and its aftermath has been increased attention to the issue of inequality both as one of the underlying causes of the crisis itself, and as a problem that now threatens social cohesion the world over. This issue of the International Journal of Labour Research examines both dimensions of the problem and seeks to provide strategic perspectives to trade unions as they go about combating inequalities.

An analysis of natural resources in the Central African Republic has shown that the country has a strong national potential and a diversified ecosystem. However, the economy has drastically deteriorated over the years owing to mismanagement. As a result, peopleís welfare has become increasingly critical, reaching now the level of what can be called ëacute miseryí. While studying issues of governance and the stabilisation of the economic system, this book pays a special attention to the analysis of the structural and contextual evolution of the economy of the Central African Republic. The study

"What kind of state emerges from the pandemic? The pandemic caused two crises, in biosecurity and in the economy. The state was forced to tackle both; but subduing one inevitably exacerbated the other. Emerging from the impossible task of handling two conflicting crises is a new form of state, the state to come. To outline the emerging state, this book offers an in-depth critical account of the state's responses to the biosecurity and the economic crises. It is thus the first study to address both crises ensuing from the pandemic, and to synthesise the responses to them in a comprehensive account of political power. Addressing biosecurity, the book deciphers its key modalities, epistemic premises, its law, the threat it aims to oppose, and the ways in which it relates to public health and society -especially its extraordinary power to suspend society. Addressing the economic crisis, the book deciphers the actuality and prospects of both the economy and the state's economic policy. It claims that economic policy is now dual: it adopts countercyclical measures to serve and entrench a neoliberal economy. The responses to the twin crises inform the outline of the emerging state: its structure, logic, and legality; its power and its relation to society. This is a state of extraordinary power; but its only purpose is to preserve the social order intact. It is a despotic state: powerful, and set to impose social stasis. This book offers groundbreaking analysis based on our pandemic experience. It is indispensable for critical scholars and students in Politics, Security Studies, Sociology, Law, Political Economy and Public Health"--

Defense establishments and the armed forces they organize, train, equip, and deploy depend upon the security of capital and capital flows, mechanisms that have become increasingly globalized. Military capabilities are thus closely tied not only to the size of the economic base from which they are drawn, but also to the viability of global convertibility and exchange arrangements. Although the general public has a stake in these economic matters, the interests and interpretive understandings held by policy elites matter most-in particular those among the owners or managers of capital who focus

This book offers a systematic discussion and explanation on what industrial security is, what the influencing factors of industrial security are, how industrial security should be evaluated and how early warnings should work from the viewpoint of developing countries. Studying theories of industrial security is necessary for the development of industrial economics theory, innovations in industrial economy studies, and an important supplement to and improvement on the theories of industrial economics. Also, studying industrial security theories can offer valuable guidance for the practice of industrial economics and national industrial policy making.
