Many people worldwide suffer from sarcoidosis, which can be cured or controlled via immune system modulation and immunotherapy. This book presents a comprehensive overview of sarcoidosis and related aspects. It discusses the cell signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms involved in sarcoidosis as well as pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and treatment of the disease.

More than 130 years have passed since the first description of sarcoid lesions by Sir Jonathan Hutchinson, but the cause of this systemic granulomatous disease is still unknown. Sarcoidosis remains a somewhat mysterious disease because many patients may enter spontaneous remission but some patients are chronically affected or relapse after intervention. Advances in recent sarcoidosis researches have added new insights to our understanding of complexity of sarcoidosis as introduced in this textbook, which includes a new concept of etiology as an endogenous infection caused by hypersensitivity to indigenous bacteria, updated immunopathogenesis and genetic factors, new directions in therapy, and new diagnostic approaches with EBUS-TBNA and FDG-PET. I believe this textbook is useful not only in practice but also for future researches of sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis remains an elusive diagnosis despite advanced technology available to clinicians in most major hospitals. Once diagnosed, the disease can be progressive and disabling or remain quiescent for years. It can affect any organ, but of course, one of the greatest concerns covered in this book is cardiac involvement that can lead to sudden death, arrhythmia, and heart failure, as well as many other complications. Cardiac Sarcoidosis is a clinician’s field guide for diagnosing, managing, and treating the disease. Epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment options are reviewed with a strong clinical angle to provide high-yield and immediately implementable concepts at the bedside. Noting that there is no gold standard in diagnosing the disease or strong consensus on treatment options, the internationally renowned authors present evidence-based and balanced approaches and, in areas with little to no evidence, the emphasis is on providing best practice. This is an easy-to-access and in-depth guide in the latest diagnostic and treatment options for this complicated and challenging disease, and will be an important resource for all medical professionals who manage or may encounter this challenging group of patients.

Sarcoidosis is a complex multisystem disease. Shortness of breath (dyspnea) and a cough that won't go away can be among the first symptoms of sarcoidosis, but sarcoidosis can also show up suddenly with the appearance of skin rashes and other dermatoses. An Atlas of Sarcoidosis: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Clinical Features combines illustrations and clinical images of the authors' extensive practices, so that readers have unparalleled access to a comprehensive collection of sarcoidosis images. The atlas is designed to complement and provide a visual supplement to already existing texts on sarcoidosis. Each organ involvement is dealt in a brief and easy to comprehend manner. Various radiographic and laboratory abnormalities are then linked to the clinical features in order to encourage a smooth and easy practical integration at the bedside and to help practising pulmonologists, dermatologists and other clinicians who require a comprehensive visual encyclopedia of sarcoidosis images.

Pulmonary Sarcoidosis: A Guide for the Practicing Clinician is a valuable resource for clinicians of varied disciplines concerning the care of the sarcoidosis patient. Sarcoidosis is a multi-system disorder and represents a major challenge to physicians. Although any organ may be involved with sarcoidosis, the lung is the most common organ affected. Chapters are written by distinguished authors who have extensive experience in caring for these patients. Detailed figures and tables are provided to guide the practicing clinician through all aspects of the condition, from clinical manifestations to treatment options. Pulmonary Sarcoidosis: A Guide for the Practicing Clinician is fully comprehensive and evidence-based and will be an essential addition to the bookshelves of all whose practice involves the care and treatment of patients with sarcoidosis.
