Abstract

This collection deals with cultural studies in the humanities and the methods it uses. Its authors include scholars of ethnology, anthropology, folkloristics, digital culture research, and study of religions. Its chapters address topics of discussion and debate in humanistic culture research and indicate what tools are currently being used to study cultural phenomena. Various phases of the research process are covered, including epistemology, research ethics, techniques of data collection and analysis, the writing process of research plans, and the process of writing up the analysis. The book’s authors contribute to our knowledge of changes in research paradigms and agendas, scientific philosophies, ethnographic fieldwork, different modes of writing, materiality, reflexivity, observation, researchers’ use of the five senses, digital research, audiovisual techniques of observation, and selected textual methodologies. The book is intended as a textbook and methods guide for students in the fields of cultural research, for postdoctoral researchers, and for more senior researchers.

Abstract

Developing independence as a learner is necessary for becoming a lifelong learner in an increasingly changing world. However, an individual without a community and socially shared learning processes is not an ideal for learning the skills for cooperation, creativity, or solving common problems. This book introduces the readers the perspective of identity development to learning processes, and particularly the questions of learning information literacy. The revised national school curriculum 2014 in Finland (implemented from Fall term 2016) emphasizes developing the students’ metaskills for learning. These metaskills can be described as aptitudes and skills for independent knowledge acquisition, problem-solving and creative thinking. This will act as a framework for the book. The contents includes discussion on the concepts of identity and information literacy, and their central role in becoming an independent learner willing to share and learn from others. The book also discusses enhancing the identity development processes and reaching the skilled levels of information literacy. The book is intended for teachers interested in developing pedagogical practices. It will also help pedagogically thinking information professional to develop their instruction and information training. The ideas and frameworks introduced in the book will also be useful for students in education, informatics and other areas which explore issues of identity development and information literacy.

Abstract

The authors deal with empirical and theoretical questions of current vocational and business education research. In addition to disciplinary reflections and analyses on teaching/learning research in vocational education and training, the authors also deal with the professionalisation of personnel in vocational education and training as well as current research findings on the subject of vocational qualification and further training.
