Si la crise économique et financière mondiale est omniprésente dans l'actualité journalière et les débats, la géographie du système financier mondial et ses territoires sont encore peu étudiés, alors que la mondialisation est par essence même un phénomène géographique. L'objectif de cet ouvrage est donc d'apporter à la fois une véritable connaissance des processus et acteurs à l'oeuvre dans les économies et sociétés contemporaines, et une boîte à outils conceptuelle et méthodologique propre à la géographie. Car loin d'être «déterritorialisé», le système financier est au contraire profondément ancré dans les réalités sociales, culturelles, économiques et géopolitiques qui organisent l'espace mondial. Après avoir abordé les questions de la production, de la mobilisation et de la circulation de la richesse, ce manuel vient analyser l'émergence puis la crise du régime d'accumulation financière apparue dans les années 1975-1980, en en décortiquant les structures et fonctionnements. Sont ensuite abordés les grands acteurs (banques, assurances, fonds de pension, shadow banking, fonds souverains.), les principaux marchés financiers (monnaies, actions, dettes, matières premières.) et leurs territoires spécifiques. Enfin, l'auteur explore les enjeux politiques et géopolitiques de la finance et les questions de gouvernance.

The name of the remote New Hampshire town where representatives of forty-four nations gathered in July 1944, in the midst of the century's second great war, has become shorthand for enlightened globalization.
