This textbook surveys the history, theory, and current practice of community music therapy to develop a comprehensive picture of the field. Along the way it takes full measure of the diverse and vibrant ways community music therapy is practiced around the globe. Including dozens of photographs and pedagogical tools such as chapter questions, textboxes, figures, key terms, and discussion topics, Invitation to Community Music Therapy is the ideal introduction to a growing area of music therapy.

This publication is about neighbourhoods undergoing change where there is a lot of movement, construction and alteration, including through urban development projects. All these changes affect life and living together in these neighbourhoods. This is an issue not just in the planning phase, but also when projects are carried out, especially when new residents move in. Working on living together in a changing neighbourhood is central to this publication. We propose a number of methods and actions, interspersed with our own experiences in a specific neighbourhood in Ghent. In collaboration with residents and other parties involved, the meanings, histories and future possibilities of a neighbourhood are described and - by entering into a dialogue - influenced. These methodologies are fed by conceptual frameworks on urbanisation and living together, explained in this book. They are linked to strategies that have taken shape in the methodologies. The book ?From place to shared neighbourhood? aims to provide inspiration for conceptual reflection and to actively work on (positive) ways of living together in changing neighbourhoods.https://www.bol.com/nl/p/comm-unity/9300000007396111/?bltgh=guSECbNWtPk4lixH4cZCjQ.2_9.10.ProductTitle

In How to Educate a Citizen, E.D. Hirsch continues the conversation he began thirty years ago with his classic bestseller Cultural Literacy, urging America's public schools, particularly at the elementary level, to educate our children more effectively to help heal and preserve the nation. Since the 1960s, our schools have been relying on "child-centered learning". History, geography, science, civics, and other essential knowledge have been dumbed down by vacuous learning 'techniques' and "values-based" curricula; indoctrinated by graduate schools of education, administrators and educators have believed they are teaching reading and critical thinking skills. Yet these cannot be taught in the absence of strong content, Hirsch argues. The consequence is a loss of shared knowledge that would enable us to work together, understand one another, and make coherent, informed decisions. A broken approach to school not only leaves our children under-prepared and erodes the American dream but also loosens the spiritual bonds and unity that hold the nation together. Drawing on early schoolmasters and educational reformers such as Noah Webster and Horace Mann, Hirsch charts the rise and fall of the American early education system and provides a blueprint for closing the national gap in knowledge, communications, and allegiance. Critical and compelling, How to Educate a Citizen galvanizes our schools to equip children with the power of shared knowledge.https://www.amazon.nl/How-Educate-Citizen-Knowledge-English-ebook/dp/B082J3D4FV

Sociological analysis is replete with debates about micro and macro, individual and society, but all too often these miss the point: interacting groups are the hinge that connects the two. To understand how structures matter and how individuals navigate them, we must take groups and people in local communities seriously.Gary Alan Fine and Tim Hallett skillfully argue that sociologists have the obligation to examine the role of small communities in the creation of both the interaction order and structural realities. With novel concepts and rich ethnographic examples, this book describes how group commitments shape selves and society, emphasizing the importance of a meso-level approach to social organization. Fine and Hallett provide new models of identity, culture, conflict, and control, and consider how a network of groups can provide insight into extended communication channels and social media lattices. Ultimately, they show that, despite the importance of institutions and individuals, group life is the fundamental building block of community. This timely book makes the case for a local sociology that includes sociality. It will be a welcome resource for students and sociologists, and a necessary call to action for the discipline as a whole.https://www.wiley.com/en-us/Group+Life:+An+Invitation+to+Local+Sociology-p-9781509554140

I am because we are.
