Reproduction has entered a new ice age: the ability to cryopreserve reproductive cells, tissue and embryos are fundamentally changing our understanding of what it means to be a reproductive citizen. This book explores the ways in which visions of desirable reproductive futures entangle with advances in freezing technologies, with the authors situating their discussions of cryo-fertility within the Scandinavian region, asking:How does cryopreservation help mobilize particular understandings of reproductive time, reproductive rights and reproductive autonomy? What values are embedded within Scandinavian laws that seek to regulate cryo-technologies? How are frozen states enacted in clinical settings and how do the women and men who freeze imagine the preservation of reproductive parts? These questions demand a collaborative approach. The authors empirically cut across the arenas of bioethics/law, practices/experiences, and culture/commerce in order to pin down often complex and far-reaching answers.

"Human oocyte cryopreservation has undergone rapid growth, with technical improvement and increasing clinical application over the last ten years. Storing eggs is ethical and gives many young women their most realistic chance of conception. Cryopreservation, however, is still considered by many as an experimental technique and conflicting reports are published as to its efficacy. For these reasons, it is necessary to give reproductive researchers and practitioners comprehensive and systematic information about the field. This book describes and analyses the history of human oocyte freezing, the main steps of technical evolution, and the pros and cons of different techniques. In addition, the clinical applications, long-term outcome, efficiency and safety of oocyte cryopreservation are detailed. The Handbook of Human Oocyte Cryopreservation gives a complete picture of the field today and is a valuable text for embryologists, cryobiologists, reproductive medicine practitioners and anyone involved in researching and implementing the technique"--Provided by publisher.

Cryopreservation is the preservation of cells at sub-zero temperatures. Although useful, the process is not without its challenges. One of the major challenges is the formation of ice crystals in the cells to be preserved. However, vitrification, where glass is formed instead of crystals, can be achieved using cryoprotection agents (CPAs). This book provides a comprehensive overview of cryopreservation and its applications. It discusses advancements in the field, challenges, guidelines, and recommendations for successful germplasm conservation. Chapters discuss the use of CPAs, cryopreservation of fish sperm, cryopreservation of oocytes and sperms, female fertility preservation, cryopreservation of large structures and tissues, and much more.

Almost a decade has passed since the last textbook on the science of cryobiology, Life in the Frozen State, was published. Recently, there have been some serious tectonic shifts in cryobiology which were perhaps not seen on the surface but will have a profound effect on both the future of cryobiology and the development of new cryopreservation methods. We feel that it is time to revise the previous paradigms and dogmas, discuss the conceptually new cryobiological ideas, and introduce the recently emerged practical protocols for cryopreservation. The present books, ""Current Frontiers in Cryobiology"" and ""Current Frontiers in Cryopreservation"" will serve the purpose. This is a global effort by scientists from 27 countries from all continents and we hope it will be interesting to a wide audience.

Intraoperative Frozen Sections presents diagnostic challenges involved in the evaluation in the pathology lab of specimens obtained during surgery through the case experience of expert pathologists. Sixty three problems cover the wide range of approximately of problems encountered in intraoperative consultations. Each presentation provides the case information as presented to the consultant, the evaluation and analysis of the specimen, discussion of the results and teaching points observed in the case, and an overall comment providing additional context for the diagnostic problem that has been

Principles and Practice of Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation and Transplantation provides methods and techniques of ovarian tissue harvesting and cryopreservation, including instructional videos. This book will benefit a wide audience, guiding infertility specialists, fellows, residents, reproductive surgeons, reproductive endocrinologists, pediatric surgeons, embryologists, infertility nurses and gynecologists. Ovarian cryopreservation and transplantation is rapidly gaining acceptance as a successful and established fertility preservation strategy in cancer patients and beyond. Unlike other fertility preservation strategies, it can be performed in children as well as adults, and can be helpful in restoring natural ovarian function and fertility, hence this is a welcomed resource on the topic.
