This book covers some well-known and some unexplored pathological aspects of management of peritoneal metastases and should be read by both surgeons and pathologists involved in the management of peritoneal surface malignancies. The evaluation of cytoreductive surgery specimens is explored for the prognostic information it can provide and recommendations for evaluation of such specimens are provided. The pathways and patterns of peritoneal dissemination and their clinical implications on the extent of surgery performed and other aspects of management are discussed for some common peritoneal tumours. The exploratory studies presented here provide a new perspective on the surgical resection of peritoneal metastases. Other important aspects of pathological evaluation like pathological response to chemotherapy, diagnosis and classification of rare peritoneal tumors have also been covered in different chapters. Keeping in sync with the progress in molecular oncology, the role of molecular oncology in the current and future management of peritoneal metastases is addressed for different tumors. .

This book addresses surgical management for recurrent soft tissue sarcomas (RSTS) based on a wealth of clinical cases. With aim to reduce recurrence rate, a surgical strategy of barrier resection plus repair reconstruction referring to natural barriers in human body for enhancing curative effect is presented in details. The first part introduces the general theory of surgical treatment for RSTS. The second part is a portfolio of clinical cases, showing the essential of the surgical strategy from hundreds of cases with tumour of different anatomical sites. This book comprises select peer-reviewed proceedings of the medical challenge - C-NMC challenge: Classification of normal versus malignant cells in B-ALL white blood cancer microscopic images. The challenge was run as part of the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (IEEE ISBI) 2019 held at Venice, Italy in April 2019. Cell classification via image processing has recently gained interest from the point of view of building computer-assisted diagnostic tools for blood disorders such as leukaemia. In order to arrive at a conclusive decision on disease diagnosis and degree of progression, it is very important to identify malignant cells with high accuracy. Computer-assisted tools can be very helpful in automating the process of cell segmentation and identification because morphologically both cell types appear similar. This particular challenge was run on a curated data set of more than 14000 cell images of very high quality. More than 200 international teams participated in the challenge. This book covers various solutions using machine learning and deep learning approaches. The book will prove useful for academics, researchers, and professionals interested in building low-cost automated diagnostic tools for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
