A comprehensive review of the advances in research on the vascular endothelium, this work discusses the structure, development and function of the normal vascular endothelium, considers conditions that lead to the disruption of vascular physiology and talks about specific pathologies and their treatment.

"Tumor Vascularization discusses the different types of growth of tumor blood vessels and their implications on research and healthcare. The book is divided into three parts: the first one, General Mechanisms, discusses different vessel growth mechanisms, such as sprouting angiogenesis, non-angiogenesis dependent growth, intussusceptive microvascular growth, vascular co-option and vasculogenic mimicry. The second and third parts, entitled Clinical Implications and Therapeutic Implications are dedicated to translating recent findings in this field to patient treatment and healthcare. This book is a valuable source for cancer researchers, oncologists, graduate students and members of the biomedical field who are interested in tumor progression and blood vessels"--

Endothelial dysfunction is now regarded as an early marker of vascular disease and therefore an important target for therapeutic intervention and discovery of novel treatments. Ideal for both basic and clinical scientists, whether in industry or academia, and physicians, Vascular Endothelium in Human Physiology and Pathophysiology provides an up-to-date review of the vascular functions of the endothelium and its role in key areas of cardiovascular disease. It focuses on evidence from studies in humans.

We have developed a microfluidic two-layered channel system based on polycarbonate to investigate the transmigration of cancer cells under flow conditions and defined shear rate using live cell microscopy. The two layers are separated by a porous membrane with an endothelial monolayer on top of the membrane to mimic the blood vessel wall. To extend the measuring capabilities of our microfluidic chip, gold electrodes were structured on the membrane using optical lithography and chemical etching.
