This special publication showcases work by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, remarkably covering all of the projects he completed between 2013 and 2020. Beginning with FRAC Marseille, more than 40 buildings are featured, many of them in Japan. Notable recent works include the Odunpazari Modern Museum in Turkey, the Dallas Rolex Tower in Texas, KENZO House in Paris, the V&A Dundee in Scotland, the cocoon-like Suspended Forest house in Switzerland, and the Takanawa Gateway Station in Tokyo. With a sharp eye for innovative and outstanding design and a staggering diversity of typologies and scales under his belt, Kuma is clearly an architectural force like none other.

Occasionally an architect emerges whose vision is so fresh that it causes us to reconsider the very nature of architecture. Sou Fujimoto is one of those architects. Guided by instinct and keen observation, he casts convention aside. Instead he blurs boundaries and routinely rethinks basic building blocks. Both comfortably familiar and curiously enigmatic, Fujimoto's dynamic work grabs our attention then lingers on in our minds. Born and bred in Hokkaido, Fujimoto received his undergraduate degree in architecture from Tokyo University before embarking on an uncharted, solo exploration that probed the possibilities of architecture. Unfettered by the ideas and practices of others, Fujimoto's work has clarity of thought and purity of execution seldom seen. Fujimoto garnered significant international attention for his popular 2013 Serpentine Pavilion in London (Fujimoto was the youngest architect to receive the highly-regarded commission). In 2012, he was part of the Japanese team that won a Golden Lion award for Best National Participation at the Venice Architecture Biennale for their design of alternative housing concepts for the homes that were destroyed by the tsunami.

This richly illustrated book delves into the innovative output of one of the world's most prolific international design and architecture practitioners, Tokyo-based Shigeru Ban. Canvassing an enormous compilation of works, this title is a significant contribution to IMAGES' stable of woks showcasing renowned leading architects from around the globe. This book features an array of innovative projects, from commercial and residential innovation strategies to humanitarian works, such as emergency shelters made from paper and modular shelters for earthquake victims. His visionary residential design philosophies encompass timber hybrid structures, including a building constructed from cardboard tubes; the tallest hybrid timber structure in the world for a residential tower in Vancouver; or the new home designed for the Aspen Art Museum, which features woven wooden cladding. His innovation extends to the industrial design of an architect's scale pen used for drawing. This book also helps to relay Shigeru Ban's contemporary discourse on architectural culture, and how it is moving in new directions.
