This book examines the aspects of vitamin D deficiency in elderly people living in nursing homes and patients with type 2 diabetes, with an emphasis on mortality, morbidity, and mental health. It explores whether low vitamin D levels are associated with increased risks of these health issues and evaluates the effectiveness of outdoor activities in increasing vitamin D levels during summer. The research is based on four studies, including a cluster randomized intervention trial. The findings suggest that low vitamin D levels are linked to higher mortality and poorer mental health outcomes, and that outdoor activity can improve vitamin D levels and mental health.
