Maumi is a dog, the last present given to Dong-wook by his father who dies when his chronic illness worsens. Dong-wook finds comfort in Maumi, who fills the void in his heart left by his father with his death. He is devoted and affectionate to Maumi despite the opposition of his mother. Maumi grows rapidly into an adult dog and gives birth to three puppies: Meokbo, Dodo, and Jangguni. Among them, Dong-wook has more sympathy and love for Jangguni who is born weak and small. Dong-wook's mother is worried that Dong-wook is spending too much time with Maumi and is losing interest in classroom learning. Finally, she sends Maumi and her three puppies away to Dong-wook's uncle. One day, the youngest puppy, Jangguni goes missing. That is because the Pil brothers who are jewelry thieves hatch a plan and nab Jangguni. Maumi chases the Pil brothers to save Jangguni. Can Jangguni nestle his head in Maumi's bosom again? 지병으로 돌아가시기 전 아버지가 동욱에게 마지막 선물로 남겨준 강아지 마음이. 동욱은 아버지의 빈자리를 채워주는 마음이를 가족처럼 생각하며, 어머니의 반대에도 불구하고 헌신적으로 돌본다. 마음이는 어느덧 무럭무럭 자라 어느새 성견(成犬)이 되고, 먹뽀, 도도, 장군 세 마리의 강아지를 낳는다. 그 중, 유독 작은 체구에 몸 상태까지 허약하게 태어난 장군이에게 동욱이는 더 많은 관심과 사랑을 쏟는다. 마음이와 강아지들을 돌보느라 학교 수업에 충실하지 못하는 동욱의 모습을 보다 못한 어머니는 마음이와 강아지들을 동욱의 외삼촌에게 보낸다. 그런데 어느 날, 막내 장군이가 보이지 않는다. 그 이유는 바로 보석 탈취범 필브라더스가 범죄에 이용하기 위해 장군이를 납치해 간 것. 마음이는 장군이를 구하기 위해 필브라더스를 뒤쫓게 되는데, 과연 장군이는 마음이의 품으로 돌아올 수 있을까?
