The book encompasses nearly 2,900 authors, representing 8,000 individual works and some 57,000,000 works of Greek text. It includes invaluable information on each writer's dates and geographical origins, their works, the genre to which each work belongs, the form in which each work survives, and the number of words each contains. Of particular usefulness is information on the standard or best textual edition of each work, as recommended by a special committee of the American Philological Association. This new second edition of the Canon encompasses an additional 200 years and adds 1,200 authors to those found in the first edition, including a number of important later authors who are often the only sources for earlier texts. As the largest bibliography of extant Greek works, the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Canon is a concise literary history that can be consulted for geographical, chronological and prosopographical information as well. It is certain to become an indispensable reference tool for Greek classical scholars and will be of interest and value to those in other fields concerned with the literature. ER -
