Sixty-one authors in all are registered with the literary production of fifty-two identified. In addition, the appendix contains a further nine authors whose works have not yet been identified or authors whose membership in the Congregation is still under review. The status quaestionis on the authors and their works was determined by the evaluation of a considerable amount of published material (encyclopaedias, literary histories, manuscripts catalogues, ancient and modern editions, monographs, journal and miscellanea articles, etc.) and, at times, by recourse to unpublished documentary and literary sources.
