Most of these studies were made by historians within the last ten years and were selected from scholarly journals. The overall plan of "Quantitative history" is for a theoretical section containing explicit discussion of quantitative analysis and a longer "practical" section giving examples of different quantitative approaches to historical data. This is the first work of its kind compiled by historians for the history market. It provides examples of quantitavie approaches so that a historian can acquire some idea of their utility before the invests the time necessary to acquire competence in these skills. It illustrates as broad a range of approaches as possible, including examples of historical data analysis in legislative behavior, bureaucratic organization and behavior, public opinion, economic organization, and demography. Its area-chronological coverage focuses on American, French, and Japanese political and social behavior and ranges in time from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. Each selection is preceded by a brief essay which explains the most pertinent features. ER -
