Commodification and touristification of culture and heritage is very much encouraged and appreciated by the tourists these days. It is considered as a successful means to achieve economical boost, recognition and connection with other people around the globe. This dissertation addresses the concept of cultural commodification and touristification along with the core concerns related to it. First chapter deals with the inspiration behind selecting this topic for research. We touch upon the contextual background and basic concepts of tourism and its link with anthropology. Second chapter emphasizes the concept of commodification and touristification, particularly in cultural context. The concepts are supported with the description of three case studies linked directly to the cultural commodification and its consequences. Third chapter includes the introduction of my research site, Saidpur Model/Tourist Village, Islamabad Pakistan, that has been commodified into a model/tourist village in 2008. This chapter includes all the information regarding my field and fieldwork along with a pictorial or virtual tour of this tourist village. Fourth chapter describes the findings of the fieldwork and my personal observations towards this touristic project. Readers will find the expressions and viewpoints of the local villagers regarding this touristic project. How local community perceive this commodification and touristification of the village and its effects on their cultural identity. Fifth and last chapter is a concluding part of this research work. Conclusions are based on my field observations and analysis. ER -
