Faculteit Geneeskunde DB - UniCat UR - https://www.unicat.be/uniCat?func=search&query=sysid:136279888 AB - Objectives: The aim of this paper is to summarize the existing literature about proximal box elevation and the sandwich technique, both placing a filling underneath another restoration. Material and methods: An electronic search with no date restriction was conducted in the Limo database, PubMed and Cochrane Library. The following main keywords were used: ‘proximal box elevation’, ‘cervical margin relocation’, ‘coronal margin relocation’, ‘deep margin elevation’, ‘open sandwich technique’ and ‘crown lengthening’. Results: 76 articles are taken into consideration for this paper. The most frequently investigated parameters in almost all of the in vitro studies were the integrity of the restorations, the bond strength and the microleakage. Some clinical reports provided documentation with a detailed description of the treatment protocol. In the current literature long term in-vivo evidence could barely be found. Conclusions: On the basis of the existing literature, it can be concluded that at the moment there is no strong scientific evidence that could either support or discourage the use of CMR or the sandwich technique. Long term in-vivo research is necessary, especially on the longevity of the restorations and the periodontal health. ER -
