For example, since the classic Grand Tour travelers, a visit is now an indispensable part of the training of last-year secondary school students. Archaeologists, historians and classicists continue to argue about what the Roman Forum may have looked like. This richly illustrated book follows the evolution of recent archaeological discoveries and theories. No boring descriptions of archaeological remains, no lists of sizes and types of stone. The information emanating from the countless inscriptions is at times startling. A selection of texts from classical literature, in the original and in translation, show what happened at the Forum. What was Pliny going to listen to in the Basilica Iulia? What exactly was the mysterious Black Stone? What does the apostle Peter have to do with the Forum? Did people actually discover the tomb of Romulus in 2020? Did the Forum fall with the fall of the Roman Empire, or did it survive? With this new standard work, the authors fill the gaps in the knowledge of one of the best-known archaeological sites from Roman antiquity. In this way, those stones get their vote again. So stones and votes? Guido Cuyt is honorary president of the Antwerp Society for Roman Archeology (AVRA), honorary member of the Flemish Archaeological Council and former external employee at the Department of Archeology of KU Leuven. He has published numerous publications on archeology in Antwerp and Rome. Michiel Verweij is a doctor in classical languages. He works as a scientific collaborator in the Old and Precious Prints Department of the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels and is also a collaborator of the KU Leuven, research unit Latin literature. Among his numerous publications is the book 'Ovid. A Poet's Story Het Forum Romanum blijft mensen al generaties lang fascineren.
