Quel plus bel exemple que la métropole de Paris pour décliner le droit comme facteur d’attractivité, tant l’enjeu de compétitivité juridique et économique est essentiel et ce, autant pour répondre à la fragmentation des places européennes qu’à l’émergence des grandes métropoles asiatiques ? À bien des égards, la place juridique de Paris se démarque des autres capitales et représente un lieu propice au conseil juridique et au règlement des litiges internationaux, notamment en raison du récent éparpillement des acteurs financiers mondiaux rassemblés auparavant dans la City londonienne pour accéder au marché unique européen et de la délocalisation du siège de l’Autorité bancaire européenne à Paris. Le présent ouvrage décrit l’attractivité économique de la place juridique de Paris sous tous ses angles. Il souligne l’importance fondamentale de raisonner en termes de « place », à l’instar des grandes métropoles des affaires, et relève l’existence d’un véritable écosystème d’acteurs contribuant au rayonnement de Paris comme centre d’excellence juridique. Pour se distinguer des places juridiques de Londres, Singapour, Amsterdam, New York, Bruxelles ou encore Francfort, la métropole parisienne mesure et décrit objectivement ses nombreux atouts ainsi que ses quelques faiblesses afin de mieux les isoler et d’y remédier en formulant des propositions d’amélioration en toute transparence et de la sorte consolider l’influence de Paris à l’étranger et affirmer son identité de place internationale du droit. De nombreux chercheurs et spécialistes français et internationaux, en économie et en droit, ont uni leurs forces, leurs études et leurs expertises qualitatives et quantitatives et compilé leurs résultats afin de parvenir à la publication de cet ouvrage.

This monograph provides a thorough account of the history of Corcyra from its foundation as a Corinthian colony to the end of Antiquity in two volumes: A (chs I-XV) and B (chs XVI-XVIII). The first volume analyzes its geographical location, history, economy and monetary policy (chs I-XII), institutions, legendary background, identity and religious life (chs XIII, XIV, XV). The second volume studies Corcyrean prosopography (XVI), onomastics (XVII) and society (XVIII). This volume also contains lists of names, three Appendices, bibliography and different indices, plates depicting coins of Corcyra, and a map of the island. All literary and epigraphic evidence is taken into account together with what we know about its coinage and, as far as possible, archaeological data.

In The Politics of the Welfare State in Turkey, author Erdem Yörük provides a politics-based explanation for the post-1980 transformation of the Turkish welfare system, in which poor relief policies have replaced employment-based social security. This book is one of the results of Yörük's European Research Council-funded project, which compares the political dynamics in several emerging markets in order to develop a new political theory of welfare in the global south. As such, this book is an ambitious analytical and empirical contribution to understanding the causes of a sweeping shift in the nature of state welfare provision in Turkey during the recent decades--part of a global trend that extends far beyond Turkey. Most scholarship about Turkey and similar countries has explained this shift toward poor relief as a response to demographic and structural changes including aging populations, the decline in the economic weight of industry, and the informalization of labor, while ignoring the effect of grassroots politics. In order to overcome these theoretical shortages in the literature, the book revisits concepts of political containment and political mobilization from the earlier literature on the mid-twentieth-century welfare state development and incorporates the effects of grassroots politics in order to understand the recent welfare system shift as it materialized in Turkey, where a new matrix of political dynamics has produced new large-scale social assistance programs.
