This book ''Recent Advances in Graphene Research'' provides a state-of-the-art report of the knowledge accumulated in graphene research. It contains 12 chapters divided into three sections. Section 1 ''Fundamentals of Graphene'' deals with quantum hall effect in graphene, electronic properties of carbon nanostructures and spectral statistics of graphene nanoflakes. In Section 2 ''Graphene Synthesis,'' the optimized synthesis procedures of graphene and its derivatives are presented. The application of graphene and its nanostructured-based materials for energy storage, conservation and other extensive applications are described in Section 3 ''Application of Graphene and its Nanostructures''. We believe that this book offers broader prospective to the readers in the recent advances in graphene research, starting from fundamental science to application.

This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the global health impacts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in ambient air, conducted on the basis of a high-resolution emission inventory, global chemical transport modeling, and probabilistic risk assessment. One of the main strengths of the thesis is the concentration downscaling process, which provides a linkage between emissions and exposure concentrations at a comparatively high resolution. Moreover, by focusing on individual susceptibility, the thesis proposes an instrumental revision of current risk assessment methodology and argues that, if individual susceptibility were not taken into consideration, the overall risk would be underestimated by 55% and the proportion of highly vulnerable populations would be underestimated by more than 90%.

Gas represents a pivotal element of the European energy architecture. New elements such as the evolution of the EU Energy Union, the international climate agreement reached at COP-21, the EU-Russia gas relations in the aftermath of the Ukraine crisis and the supply potential emerging in the Eastern Mediterranean, are rapidly reshaping the European gas markets. This book seeks to provide an insight on these developments, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the current European gas debate by providing a balancing act between two issues, decarbonisation of the European energy system and security of gas supply, that are usually conceived as different and unmatched but that represent, in reality, the two sides of the same coin.
