Protéger l'enfant ce n'est pas seulement lui éviter des dangers extérieurs, c'est aussi le protéger de la violence intérieure, c'est-à-dire lui donner des limites. Or, il faut reconnaître que le développement de nos valeurs individualistes, disqualifiant les concepts d'autorité et hiérarchie, empêche de nombreux adultes de mettre l'enfant à sa place d'enfant, c'est-à-dire d'assumer un rôle véritablement éducatif. Le public et les professionnels non impliqués directement dans cette pratique ne voient pas toujours les conséquences de ces choix de notre société. Dans un style clair et précis, à partir de situations concrètes tirées de son expérience, l'auteur montre comment se mettent en scène ces contradictions, tant dans les familles que dans les institutions.
