Opinions have been divided on Margaret Thatcher to this day. Her admirers compare her to Charles de Gaulle and Winston Churchill or simply consider her the greatest politician of the 20th century. Her opponents accuse her of having transformed Britain into a country where selfishness and greed reign. Dominik Geppert deals with Thatcher's years as an opposition leader in the British House of Commons, which has so far been neglected by research, starting with her surprising election as Conservative party leader in February 1975 to taking office as Prime Minister in May 1979.
