This Volume presents the general Proceedings of the Data Analysis Workshop II, on the Design of Longitudinal Studies and Analysis of Repeated Measures Data, held at the Centre for Mathematics and Its Applications, ANU, July 1991. The aim of this Workshop series is to define the state of the art in applied statistics. This Workshop brought together, in Australia, scientists and resaerchers with experience in the design of longitudinal studies, in the development of analytic methods for repeated measurements data and in the application of these techniques.

This reference explains hybrid-Trefftz finite element method (FEM). Readers are introduced to the basic concepts and general element formulations of the method. This is followed by topics on non-homogeneous parabolic problems, thermal analysis of composites, and heat conduction in nonlinear functionally graded materials. A brief summary of the fundamental solution based-FEM is also presented followed by a discussion on axisymmetric potential problems and the rotordynamic response of tapered composites. The book is rounded by chapters that cover the n-sided polygonal hybrid finite elements and analysis of piezoelectric materials.Key Features- Systematic presentation of 9 topics- Covers FEMs in two sections: 1. hybrid-Trefftz method and 2. fundamental FEM solutions- Bibliographic references- Includes solutions to problems in the numerical analysis of different material types- Includes solutions to some problems encountered in civil engineering (seepage, heat transfer, etc). This reference is suitable for scholars involved in advanced courses in mathematics and engineering (civil engineering/materials engineering). Professionals involved in developing analytical tools for materials and construction testing can also benefit from the methods presented in the book.

Authored by a geophysicist with more than 50 years of experience in research and instruction, Reflection Seismology: Theory, Data Processing and Interpretation provides a single source of foundational knowledge in reflection seismology principles and theory. Reflection seismology has a broad range of applications and is used primarily by the oil and gas industry to provide high-resolution maps and build a coherent geological story from maps of processed seismic reflections. Combined with seismic attribute analysis and other exploration geophysics tools, it aids geologists and geo-engi

Texas prosecutors are powerful: in cases where they seek capital punishment, the defendant is sentenced to death over ninety percent of the time. When management professor Hans Hansen joined Texas’s newly formed death penalty defense team to rethink their approach, they faced almost insurmountable odds. Yet while Hansen was working with the office, they won seventy of seventy-one cases by changing the narrative for death penalty defense. To date, they have succeeded in preventing well over one hundred executions—demonstrating the importance of changing the narrative to change our world. In this book, Hansen offers readers a powerful model for creating significant organizational, social, and institutional change. He unpacks the lessons of the fight to change capital punishment in Texas—juxtaposing life-and-death decisions with the efforts to achieve a cultural shift at Uber. Hansen reveals how narratives shape our everyday lives and how we can construct new narratives to enact positive change. This narrative change model can be used to transform corporate cultures, improve public services, encourage innovation, craft a brand, or even develop your own leadership.Narrative Change provides an unparalleled window into an innovative model of change while telling powerful stories of a fight against injustice. It reminds us that what matters most for any organization, community, or person is the story we tell about ourselves—and the most effective way to shake things up is by changing the story.

Kniha představuje téma produktivní kultury učení a usazuje je do širšího didaktického kontextu. V první části jsou jakožto teoretický rámec představeny tři hlavní oblasti produktivní kultury učení: 1. jasnost, strukturovanost, soudržnost, 2. kognitivní aktivizace, instrumentalizace a semantizace obsahu, 3. podpůrné učební prostředí. Druhou část knihy tvoří 17 didaktických kazuistik zpracovaných týmy oborových didaktiků a učitelů v praxi. Cílem kazuistik je ilustrovat klíčové oblasti produktivní kultury učení. The book introduces the issue of productive culture of teaching and learning in broader didactical context. In the first part of the book, three areas of productive culture of teaching and learning are as theoretical framework presented: 1. clarity, structure, coherence, 2. cognitive activation, instrumentalization, semantization, 3. Supportive learning environment. The second part of the book presents 17 didactic case studies that have been developed by teams that consisted of researchers and teachers from schools. The aim of didactic case studies is to highlight key areas of productive culture of teaching and learning.

"Language acquisition has been the subject of decades of research. Most of the previous research on second language acquisition has centered around adult learners, leaving child learners understudied by comparison. This book focuses on child second language development. The cross-sectional empirical study investigates the syntax-semantics interface in child second language German and French. The author discusses variables such as crosslinguistic influence, the complexity of the learning tasks, cognitive maturity and the learning context. By focusing on child second language acquisition in immersion education, this book not only substantially contributes to the field of second language acquisition but also offers important insights into teaching in an immersion context"-- Provided by publisher.
