Reproductive technologies to assist in both human conception and animal breeding are increasingly in demand. These technologies, along with the advent of tissue engineering, have propelled the challenges of tissue collection, preservation, and banking to the research forefront. Using examples drawn from reproductive technologies, Reproductive Tissue Banking presents the scientific principles underlying tissue banking. These examples serve as models for the technology of banking other living tissues, including blood, bone marrow, cornea, and skin.

The versatility of oocyte and embryo donation has proven to be extremely valuable to both patients and doctors engaged in reproductive medicine. Originally thought to be applicable only to a rather small subset of infertile women, today busy practices commonly recommend the procedure and it is estimated that nearly all of the 400 or more IVF programs in the United States provide these services. Oocyte and embryo donation has established itself as a mainstay procedure within assisted reproductive care, and the breadth, depth and complexity of practice is deserving of focused attention. Much has changed within the field of oocyte and embryo donation since the publication of the first edition of Principles of Oocyte and Embryo Donation in 1998, thus the need for a completely updated and more expansive text. The second edition of this book provides an overview of the major issues affecting men and women engaged in the practice of oocyte and embryo donation. A primary emphasis has been placed on defining the standards of practice that have evolved over the past 30 years, clearly stating the outcomes expected from adhering to these established protocols. Details of both the basic science and the clinical medicine are presented together and attention is also focused on the non-reproductive aspects inherent to this unique method of assisted reproduction that involves opinions from lawyers, ethicists, mental health care professionals and theologians. Oocyte and embryo donation requires a working knowledge of the medicine, the law and the ethics that underlies its foundation. This book is intended to serve as a complete and comprehensive reference for all health care professionals that provide services related to egg donation, reproductive endocrinologists, obstetrician- gynecologists, and fellows and residents entering the fertility field.

Recurrent Miscarriages (RM) & Implantation Failure (IF) have remained an enigma to clinicians and researchers. Even after ruling out all possible causative factors, 50-60% cases still remain “Unexplained’. A majority of these so called “Unexplained” cases are now found to have immunological basis. This book is going into the Immunological aspects of these clinical dilemmas, demystifying the role of Immunology and Immunotherapy in RM and IF. The authors have been working in the field of Reproductive Immunology and Immunotherapy for the last 25 years and they have come out with this book combining the international studies with their own experience. The purpose of writing this book is to provide a comprehensive treatise about Immunotherapy, so that it can become an acceptable modality of treatment in cases where it is needed and is effective. The book discusses the basics in Reproductive Immunology. The immunological changes occurring during pregnancy, the role of Cell mediated Immunity (T cells), Humoral Immunity including cytokines is explained. The normal immunological mechanisms protecting the embryo are highlighted and how these mechanisms are disturbed leading to RM and IF, is also explained. The first and the most discussed method of Immunotherapy is Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy (LIT). The book has given a complete overview of LIT, describing how it created euphoria when it was first introduced, how it gradually went into disrepute and how it is now making a comeback. As the authors have personal experience of LIT, the book gives a detailed and complete information about this active form of immunotherapy. The book has a special section on case studies where the authors have given some clinical case reports (including some of their own), who were treated for immunological factor in RM/IF and were treated with Immunotherapy. These cases can be a useful guide to the readers. The book will be useful not only for undergraduate and postgraduate students but also for clinicians in their practice and for researchers for review of developments in the field.

This concise work on embryo transfer is yet another contribution to the persevering effort to disseminate latest information on the science and skill of performing a traumatic and successful embryo transfer. It is the most critical culmination of the assisted reproductive technology (ART) stimulation cycle, and a rate-limiting step in dictating the success of treatment. The well-worded chapters draw the reader’s attention to significant aspects before initiating the actual embryo transfer, such as possible causes of failure at the embryo transfer stage, uterine evaluation, mock embryo transfer (ET), experience of the physician, and the use of ultrasound-guidance to monitor ET. The protocol for difficult transfers, variables that affect the success of ET, and the influence of the catheter used for ET have also been dealt with. The unique feature of this book is its pragmatic approach that can translate into solutions to the numerous frustrating ART failures that more often than not, may be attributed to an inefficient ET procedure. It helps the reader understand the integrity of embryo transfer, unravel its obvious simplicity and bridge the success between the several steps of ART. By highlighting the impeding problems associated with ET procedure and providing valid, scientific solutions, this stimulating edition will help the readers improve the ART success rates in their clinical practice. .

In Vitro Fertilization: A Comprehensive Guide represents the next frontier in the integrated clinical and laboratory practice of ART. Uniquely balanced, the book provides the necessary understanding of the key laboratory techniques involved in ART and the complex aspects of clinical care. Featuring the contributions of world leaders in the field, the guide begins with the evaluation of the infertile woman and man. It then moves on to discuss treatment protocols and adjunctive treatments. Techniques for oocyte retrieval and insemination, embryo culture and transfer, and micromanipulation procedures are explored in detail. This comprehensive book covers all aspects of IVF and includes special sections on oocyte and embryo donation as well as gestational carriers, making it ideal for practicing clinicians. Advances such as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and screening, in vitro maturation, and means of fertility preservation, including oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation, are also covered. The book concludes with dedicated chapters on quality assessment and improvement, regulation and legal concerns, and stress and ART. Readers will gain complete in-depth knowledge of the most current therapies and techniques, enabling optimal care and counsel of their infertile patients.
