While there are books that review lacrimal system disorders and surgery as a section of comprehensive oculoplastic textbooks, The Lacrimal System: Diagnosis, Management and Surgery solely addresses Lacrimology in one concise, practical volume. Building off of the success of the first edition, this text includes significantly updated information, new authors from around the world as well as new chapters that are complete with high quality images and illustrations. Lacrimal surgeries are commonly performed by oculoplastic surgeons and range from alleviating lacrimal system obstructions in children with congenital dysmorphology to minimally invasive lacrimal system reconstruction. The second edition of this book meets the needs of practicing physicians, fellows, and residents who are managing the tearing patient clinically and surgically.

Written by experts in the fields of oculofacial plastic surgery and neuro-ophthalmology, Evaluation and Management of Blepharoptosis is an up-to-date, practical guide to the treatment of adults and children with ptosis. This comprehensive reference covers all aspects of blepharoptosis in an organized fashion. The book begins with evaluation of the patient to determine if true ptosis or pseudoptosis exists. The various categories of blepharoptosis are thoroughly and succinctly reviewed, along with suggested approaches to clinical management. Detailed descriptions of the various surgical techniques are replete with pearls provided by leading ptosis surgeons, along with advice regarding perioperative anesthesia and analgesia. Every surgeon should know how to handle the various surgical complications and surgical failure. Nevertheless, familiarity with surgical techniques is not enough. One must learn to identify risk factors and red flags that suggest a modified or conservative approach, or perhaps that surgery may be unwise. When surgery is unwarranted or unsuccessful, then one may consider nonsurgical therapeutic strategies. Regardless of treatment, the physician-patient relationship and detailed discussion with the patient prior to surgery regarding potential risks, complications, and realistic expectations impact patient satisfaction immeasurably. All of these issues are discussed in detail in this invaluable resource for the clinician.

This comprehensive text covers both core and advanced principles within oculofacial, orbital, and lacrimal surgery with extensive detail not found in any other current book on the subject. Richly illustrated with hundreds of images, Oculofacial, Orbital, and Lacrimal Surgery: A Compendium is written and edited by international leaders in fields spanning ophthalmology, otolaryngology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and plastic surgery. Covering topics such as embryology, anatomy, and physiology of the lacrimal system, imaging for orbital diseases and thyroid-related ophthalmology, and flap geometry and planning, this book is an excellent resource for those in training, as well as seasoned clinicians looking to stay current. This book is divided into five sections: Eyelid, Oculofacial, Lacrimal, Orbit, and Socket, with each section containing detailed chapters addressing evaluation, imaging, and various surgical approaches and management. Designed to not only provide an anatomical and surgical guide for all three types of surgeries, but to help physicians avoid mistakes and correct complications of patients referred to them, Oculofacial, Orbital, and Lacrimal Surgery: A Compendium is the definitive, authoritative reference on this complex field.

Lacrimal surgeries are among the most commonly performed ones in occulopastic surgery. The procedures range from unblocking tear ducts in small children with this very minor congenital dysmorphology to correcting dry eye through surgery. As with many of these procedures, the disorders sound minor but the patients’ lives are seriously affected. Dry eye is more than an inconvenience, sometimes leading to corneal microabrasions, infections, and photosensitivity. Dry eye is caused by any number of systemic autoimmune disorders such as lupus or arthritis, excessive radiation, drug reactions, old age, and lasik and other surgeries. There are other books reviewing lacrimal surgery as a portion of occuloplastic practice. The editors have chosen, in The Lacrimal System: Diagnosis, Management & Surgery, to address the whole range of lacrimal disorders in one concise, practical volume. By broadening the scope of the subject, the editors hope to meet the needs of residents, ophthalmologists who do some lacrimal procedures, fellows who are learning the special procedures, and experts interested in learning about the most recent modifications of technique.
