Abstract

"A principal goal of the GEWEX Continental-Scale International Project (GCIP) Program is to improve the analysis of precipitation over a range of space and time scales. Over the past several years the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has developed a US Precipitation Quality Control (QC) System and Analysis that addresses two principal aspects of this goal: 1) Improved QC of raingauge data used in precipitation analyses for the United States and 2) Improved precipitation products and applications in support of climate monitoring, climate prediction, and applied research."

Abstract

This video runs through NOAA's spring 2021 forecast for drought, floods, precipitation, and temperature. Close to half of the Lower 48 states was in some level of drought as of mid-March, and drought is not expected to abate in most places. Combined with a forecast favoring much warmer than average temperatures, it could be a tough spring for fire managers, ranchers, and growers.

Abstract

"A state-of-the-art daily precipitation analysis for Brazil for the period 1961-present is used to examine the annual cycle and variability of daily precipitation over the country. Emphasis is placed on daily precipitation statistics (including frequency of occurrence, intensity and geographic distribution). The NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis is used to examine the large-scale circulation features associated with extreme precipitation events. A classification of El Niǫ-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is used together with the daily precipitation analysis to diagnose relationships between ENSO phase and precipitation."
