Entre l'époque de Galien et la fin du Moyen Age, l'étude de l'anatomie n'a guère progressé. C'est alors que la dissection, bravant les interdits, commença à être pratiquée en Europe. Jusqu'au XIXe siècle la connaissance du corps ne cessa d'évoluer grâce au scalpel. R.
