Das Buch geht zunächst auf das Konzept eines neuen Aktors auf der Basis von einwandigen Kohlenstoff-Nanoröhren (single-wall carbon nanotubes, SWCNTs) ein. Weiterhin wird das Konzept und die Realisierung einer neuen Prozesskette zur Integration von SWCNTs in technische Anwendungen vorgestellt. Mit Hilfe der entwickelten Prozesskette besteht die Möglichkeit, sowohl das Aktorkonzept, als auch eine Vielzahl von weiteren SWCNT-Anwendungen zu realisieren und zu kommerzialisieren.

Amorphes Siliciumdioxid findet als Füllstoff verbreitet Anwendung. Es wird u.a. durch die Vermischung einer Silikatlösung mit einer Säure hergestellt. Dabei entsteht intermediär ein Gel. Mit dieser Arbeit wird ein Beitrag zur Steuerung der Eigenschaften des Produktpulvers geleistet. Es wird eine Formel vorgestellt, mit der die Gelierzeit aus den Konzentrationen der Einsatzstoffe abgeschätzt werden kann. Für die Fragmentierung des Gels werden Parallelen zum Aufbruch hochviskoser Tropfen gezeigt.
