This new edition of a highly popular biochemistry text introduces the student to the basic principles of techniques that are used routinely in modern biochemistry and molecular biology. Its coverage is comprehensive, giving great attention to those techniques that undergraduate students of biosciences can expect to encounter in their practical classes. Principles and theory are discussed alongside details of equipment used and applications of the techniques. The book wil also be of interest to postgraduates undertaking projects of a biochemical or molecular biological nature.

ELISA and Other Solid Phase Immunoassays Theoretical and Practical Aspects D. M. Kemeny, Department of Medicine, and S. J. Challacombe, Department of Oral Medicine and Pathology, United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals, London, UK This guide to the modern applications of solid phase immunoassays is written by experts from a wide range of specialities who have used ELISA and other assays in a variety of fields. Not only is the book ideally suited for use as a laboratory manual but, recognizing the importance of understanding the theoretical basis of such assays, the authors also provide a comprehensive account of the scientific principles involved. The book analyses the solid phase supports used, as well as amplification systems, quantification and affinity of antibodies, detection systems, and the application of assays to cell biology, immunology and microbiology. Laboratory workers in the fields of medicine, dentistry, biochemistry, immunology, food science, and forensic and veterinary medicine will find this an invaluable source of advice, guidance and information on solid phase immunoassays. Other titles of interest from Wiley include two books edited by Professor W. P. Collins-Alternative Immunoassays and Complementary Immunoassays-as well as the following: Allergy: An International Textbook Edited by M. H. Lessof, T. H. Lee and D. M. Kemeny

Biosensing and bioimaging techniques largely promote the accurate diagnosis of intractable diseases, such as cancers, on the basis of specific molecular targets, or as-called biomarkers. To realize the assays with ultrahigh sensitivity and selectivity, the wide application of molecular biology and nanotechnology are of great necessity. Both directions may offer effective signal amplification strategies, as well as inhibition of cross-reaction interference. Therefore, this Special Issue, “Biosensing and Bioimaging: Trends and Perspective”, highlights the recent developments in intelligent biomolecule/nanostructure-based probes for bioimaging and biosensing applications. It consists of five peer-reviewed papers that cover current hot topics, such as biodegradable materials, DNA assembly, shRNA delivery and chimeric proteins, which will provide a unique perspective of advanced biosensing and bioimaging techniques.

Cellulose empowers measurement science and technology with a simple, low-cost, and highly transformative analytical platform. This book helps the reader to understand and build an overview of the state of the art in cellulose-based (bio)sensing, particularly in terms of the design, fabrication, and advantageous analytical performance. In addition, wearable, clinical, and environmental applications of cellulose-based (bio)sensors are reported, where novel (nano)materials, architectures, signal enhancement strategies, as well as real-time connectivity and portability play a critical role.
